Kaili University (凯里学院): Programs and Teaching Language for International Students

Kaili University (凯里学院) is a public undergraduate university in Kaili, Guizhou. The admissions table in the Guizhou study-in-China brochure (April 2026) lists eight undergraduate programs, and seven of them are taught in Chinese. The eighth, English, is taught in Chinese and English. The brochure does not give tuition, scholarship amounts, or application deadlines, so check those on the university's official website before you plan your application.

What the university offers

Kaili University has a history that goes back to 1958, when it was founded as Qiandongnan University. It was upgraded to a general undergraduate university in 2006 with approval from the Ministry of Education. In June 2023, the State Ethnic Affairs Commission and the Guizhou provincial government signed an agreement to build the university jointly, and it became a joint university of the ministry and the province. In June 2024, it became a university affiliated with and supervised by the provincial government.

The campus is in Kaili City and covers 1,676 acres, with about 342,000 square meters of buildings. The university has 16 teaching branches and offers 55 undergraduate majors across education, engineering, science, literature, management, art, and agriculture.

For international students, the brochure notes that the university has friendly cooperative relations with more than 80 institutions in Russia, Belarus, Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand, and Taiwan. It also runs an undergraduate computer science and technology program with Arden University in the United Kingdom. The brochure says the university has received international students from Germany, South Korea, Thailand, Laos, and Indonesia.

The brochure's table does not show enrollment numbers or entry requirements. It also does not say whether the university's other majors are open to international students, so ask the university directly if you want a program that is not on this list.

Who this suits

Kaili University may suit students who want a provincial university with a clear list of undergraduate programs and a range of options in the humanities, business, science, engineering, and architecture. The English program is the only one in the table taught partly in English. If you cannot yet follow lectures in Chinese, check the language support the university provides before you apply to any of the other seven programs.

Students interested in tourism, business, or architecture should look at the length of study too. Architecture is five years in the table; the other seven programs are four years.
